Assisted Recovery Center of Georgia, Inc. was started in 2000 by Terry Bruce after 12-step programs, alcohol detox, intensive inpatient, and other traditional detox centers failed to help a member of her family recover from alcohol addiction. While searching the internet for other treatments, Ms. Bruce came across the studies by the University of Pennsylvania addictions researcher Joseph Volpicelli MD, PhD.
He pioneered Naltrexone's use in treating alcohol addiction, which led to its FDA approval for its use in alcoholism in 1994. Dr. Volpicelli discovered that Naltrexone significantly reduced the cravings for alcohol, which allowed for the person in treatment to focus more on his or her recovery.
