CHILDREN'S MEMORIAL HOSPITAL PROFILE Over 120 years ago, Julia Porter converted an 8-bed cottage into Maurice Porter Memorial Hospital, caring exclusively for children, regardless of ability to pay. As the little hospital's reputation spread, so did the need for facilities. Within 8 years, the number of beds had mushroomed by 850%. Today, Children's Memorial Hospital has a multi-building main campus and 13 area clinics. The hospital remains wholly devoted to pediatric care and research. The very young make up the bulk of patients; about 75% are under the age of 10. In 2001, the hospital served more than 80,000 children, providing more than 13,200 surgical procedures, and 43,000 ER visits. More detail... |
