The Computer Science Department at RPI consists of 24 faculty, renowned nationally and internationally for their work.
Major research areas include bioinformatics, computational science and engineering, computer vision, database systems, networking, parallel computing, pervasive computing, robotics, semantic web, software design, and theoretical computer science. The Department confers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. Currently there are about 440 undergraduates and about 85 graduate students. RPI, in collaboration with IBM and the State of New York, is building a computing center with computational power in the top ten in the world, and with more power than any university-based computing center in the world.
