Welcome, welcome to the World of Beauty. "The Greatest." I had a very exciting experience. I was blessed to be chosen to do some promotional work for The Greatest, Muhammed Ali. I was in Los Angeles when I was called to promote his new cologne at an exclusive department store. Hundreds of admirers were lined up back-to-back to meet him and buy his cologne, so the promotional job wasn't difficult at all. I had my own pitch for selling it and the people loved it. As I modeled around the store I used the phrase "He's the greatest, so it's the greatest," to promote his cologne. At the end of a tiresome day, Muhammed Ali had the other model, Monique, and myself come sit on his lap. We took pictures together. Can you imagine being so close to such a great icon? Afterwards, we all walked to the tea room when the Champ suddenly arched himself on both feet as if he were bobbing and weaving from an opponent in the ring. It was so funny! He had this boyish way of charming you, and making people laugh. He loved making people laugh. He was a huge man once you stood beside him. All in all, I see why the world dubbed him The Greatest. "Always Look Your Best." One of the most exciting experiences in my life was when I was in Las Vegas at a concert given by the one-and-only Diana Ross. Ms. Ross recognized me in the audience so she reached out her hand to me and she told me to come up on the stage with her. I said, "I can't! I can't get up there because the stage is too high!" Ms. Ross then shouted out, "Get her a chair!" When I finally got on the stage, we embraced one another. It was definitely a dream come true, because I have always admired, loved and respected her. Ms. Ross then left me on the stage to carry the show while she went to change clothes--can you imagine being left on stage in Las Vegas to carry the show for Diana Ross? But she did, and I danced until she returned. Diana Ross and the crowd then applauded me, and I left the stage. It was an experience in my life that I'll never forget, and it taught me to always, and I do mean always, look your best because you never, ever know who's watching you. "Believing in What You Do" Another wonderful and exciting experience I had was with the great and wonderful back up singers for Ms. Aretha Franklin. I was riding on their bus with them as they were going to rehearsal. and when they said that they had to find a department store to get some makeup I told them about Elessia Cosmetics and Skin Care. They were thrilled to know that they wouldn't have to journey out to a department store, since I could provide them with any cosmetics and skin care products that they needed. They bought my blush, my powder, and my beautiful eye shadows, which they applied to their own faces. I was able to see the whole show, and I must admit that they looked gorgeous. "Never Run Away From a Challenge" I have found through my experience with makeup, you can almost brighten anyones day. Once I was put in a situation with the wonderful entertainer, Mr. Barry White. I was in New Jersey to see one of his great shows. His two background singers were introduced to me by the great musical conductor Mr. H.B. Barnum. When they heard that I was the owner of Elessia Cosmetics and a makeup artist, they pleaded with me to do their faces. I explained to them that I only brought my own makeup with me and I didn't bring any other colors, since I was only there to see the concert. But they insisted that I help them, so I said I would do the best that I could. They were both two different complexions--neither close to mine. However, my cosmetics are designed to be very versatile. So I took my cover cream (which is actually designed to be applied under the eyes), and I used it as their foundation. It was almost miraculous the way my under-the-eye cream and my powder mixed together to enhance their skin tones. In addition, I gently spread my blush out on their faces. Even though they were under lights and moving around on stage, the colors on their cheeks were perfectly even. I wanted their lips to be beautiful, so I colored them with Elessia's Lip Pencils, adding my gloss over the top. They were both very, very, greatful, and still are to this day. I'm sure that they will never forget it, I know that I won't. It was truly a challenging experience. But when you have the right cosmetics and skin care you can do almost anything. "Beauty is in The Eye of the Beholder" There was a young lady with Down Syndrome and she was with her mother. I stopped them as they were walking by my counter. Previously, they saw me selling makeup and skin care but they looked like they never thought that I would even look their way--but I always want to see people smile, so I did. The young lady was very reluctant at first but her mother and I persuaded her to just give it a try. I cleansed her skin and then I gave her a simple makeover. The results were magnificent. She was so beautiful that she and her mother started to cry. I almost cried myself, but I managed to say, "No tears now; you'll make the makeup run." We all started to laugh. Her mother commented on how beautiful her daughter looked, and then she asked what can I buy that will give her the same look without spending a lot of money. So I pulled out the moisturizer because her skin was very dry, the foundation to add just a little color, one eye shadow to soften her eyes, and a lipstick. I told her mother to put a little bit of the eye shadow on her cheek for color. I kept it very simple because I didn't want the enhancing of her beauty to seem like a chore. Sometimes, when you use too much makeup, it can begin to feel like a big ordeal to apply it. Using makeup should be exciting and fun. They loved the makeup I offered and purchased everything that I suggested. I must admit in all these years of doing makeup that's truly one of the happiest moments of my life--to watch as the young lady and her mother got to see that in spite of any obstacles in life you can always look at yourself and say "Yes I am beautiful; I am as beautiful as I want to be."
