The Getty Provenance Index® Databases, part of the Project for the Study of Collecting and Provenance (PSCP), are compiled with the collaborative participation of institutions and individuals in Europe and the United States.
The databases contain indexed transcriptions of material from auction catalogs and archival inventories of western European works of art, and contain nearly 1,000,000 records that cover the period from the late 16th century to the early 20th century. The databases are available free of charge via the Web. The Research Library at the Getty Research Institute is one of the richest resources in the world for the study of provenance and the history of western European art collecting. The Research Library's holdings, which include an extensive collection of dealer and auction catalogs, original primary materials from special collections, the Photo Study Collection, microfiche and microfilm, and the collectors files.
