The way music has been recorded over the years has certainly seen it share of new technology. When records first came out they were termed LP’s, LP’s came in 33 rpm or 33-1/3 rpm, 16 rpm, 45 rpm and 78 rpm. The perfect rpm for a full size record was 33-1/3 and 45 rpm’s were great fro the smaller records. The records were made of polyvinyl chloride or PVC and the name was shortened to vinyl records or just vinyl.

In 1878, Thomas Edison invented the first working phonograph. He invented it to be used as a recording medium that is used fro office dictation. The lateral discs were first were invented by Emile Berliner in 1888 and was used solely as toys until 1894 when disc recordings were used under the name of Berliner Gramophone label.
