Our Proud History

1896 A school in Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA, offers the first correspondence course to coal miners in remote areas. The school becomes known as ICS (International Correspondence Schools). By 1906, it has 850 000 students enrolled worldwide, including in Cape Town, South Africa.

1972 After surviving decades of turbulent history, including two world wars, ICS opens its Johannesburg branch. It soon continues its expansion with branches in Durban and Port Elizabeth.

1988 ICS changes ownership and alters its name to INTEC College. The College continues to grow in size and profile and opens offices in the Pretoria and Cape Town city centres.

1997 INTEC College becomes part of Naspers, owner of the largest group of private education providers in Africa. Naspers is a global organisation with major businesses in the worlds of publishing, Internet and education.

Today We have branches in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Pretoria, Port Elizabeth and Durban, and a pronounced presence on the Internet. We also provide topquality education and training to students worldwide.
We offer you free advice before you enrol
Would you like to discuss your career plans? Contact an experienced Student Consultant at one of our branch offices (see back of brochure for details). They’re always available to offer advice and assist you in selecting the course of study most suited to your needs.

You start when it suits you
We don’t have closing dates, so you’re free to start your studies whenever it suits you.

You have no classes to attend
With no classes to attend, you study in the comfort of your own home (or at the office during your lunch hour)
– wherever and whenever it suits you.

You study at your own convenience
You won’t have to change your lifestyle. Home study is extremely flexible. You decide on your own hours of study and draw up a timetable that won’t interfere with your family or work commitments.

You study at your own pace
Progress with your course at your own pace, within your contract period. If you’re new to a subject, you can take your time to master it. If you already have some knowledge, you’re free to move ahead onto the next subject.

We give you personalised instruction
We cater for the needs of the individual. A tutor, who is qualified in your chosen field of study, will provide guidance and assistance, should you experience difficulties with any part of your course.

You can earn while you learn
Home study allows you to gain more knowledge and acquire new skills outside of office hours. You can study in your spare time and still remain in full–time employment.

We are leaders in distance learning
We’ve been active in the field of distance education for over a hundred years. Join the more than one million students who have already achieved career advancement and personal growth through us.

Studying the INTEC Way
When we send you your first pack of study material, we include an enrolment pack, which explains distanceeducation learning processes and gives you all of the contact details you might need during your studies. You will fi nd that we have the best system for correspondence study.

The price you see is the price you pay
Your course fee covers your tuition fees, study material and the kit items that you will need to pass your course. We will inform you of any additional exam fees in the brochure. We sometimes suggest additional reading or items, but you can decide whether or not to buy these items. The course fee entitles you to study with us for up to two years – we don't have yearly "re–registration" fees. When we send you study material, learning items or marked assignments, we pay the postage fees.

We give feedback and help if you don't pass
The assignments in our study material are developmental. This means that if you don’t pass an assignment the fi rst time, we give you feedback and another opportunity to submit that assignment. Our exams are fair, and set by subject matter experts. We are committed to helping you to gain real skills.

One–on–one tutoring
You will receive individual telephonic attention from your tutor. Your tutor deals with only one student at a time, for as long as you need. He or she works in the fi eld that you are studying and is an expert in the subject

Motivation and help
Motivation and help from your Student Counsellor is a telephone call away. We have support personnel, who specialise in your area of study, available on the phone. You get ongoing service and support for up to two years. If you struggle with a course, we might suggest that you do a bridging programme. This kind of advice forms part of our counselling service.   More detail...
