Hampton College was established in 1985 when the founders realised that there was a major shortage of trained staff in commerce and industry. Many employees who had the theoretical background, lacked the practical skills-knowledge required to perform tasks well. Hampton was established with the intention of providing education and training which gave a balance between theory and practical knowledge.
The methodology adopted for this kind of training is one of theory, activity and application, where students are encouraged to become decision makers and critical thinkers and the emphasis is on good communication and numeracy skills. Hampton offers training from the foundation levels of literacy and numeracy through to University degrees. Hampton focuses on the following:
ServicesServices which Hampton provides are to administer/ write examinations for institutions such as LCCI, hire lecture rooms, or provide a copy/ fax/ typing service. The adult education division provides:Training for educators/ tutors from level one to level five, in English, Zulu, Xhosa or numeracy. Other languages available. Supply of Abet material and equipment for trainees and learners. The trainees material is sufficient for a class of up to 20 learners. The learners material is available in the 11 official languages - the numeracy level one (counting concepts) is in the mother tongue. Monitoring and back up programmes, to ensure successful outcomes. Workshops and seminars to highlight changes in policy, introduce new programmes or brush up on skills. Produce customer specific material.
